Philippine DotA is now being more competitive and it has reached far beyond the level of the same over the past years. Many teams are exerting a lot of effort to be on top. However, highly-skilled players are not the only hinge on any team’s success. The managers who support their teams should not be ignored. As much as it is the players who actually win the games, it is reasonable to say that teams who actually have managers have an edge over those without.
Mineski.net caught up an interview with some of the DotA teams’ managers in the local scene. It’s about time for them to be in the limelight.
Introduce yourself and your team.
Edz: I’m Edna del Mundo, ate Edz for short. I’m handling HappyFeet.
Herick: Im Herick Bacer known as herickprime, 33 yrs old, Married and has 2 kids. Prime is composed of 5 players. Namely Angelo “Doc” Docosin as Prime Team Captain plus four powerhouse teammates Hide “Hide” Yanagida, Patrick “Paty” Pascua”, Kevin “Nivek” Binaohan and Richard “Paseo” Minowa.
Rhom: I am Ronald Robins and I am the Manager/Coordinator/Physical Trainer/Promoter of Mineski.net.
What prompted you to manage a DotA team? And why did you choose this team?
Edz: Just simply, I like the game, the strategies, the style, the mindset of the players, the pustahan every game, and many more. Gusto ko talaga magsugal…. Hahahaha!
Herick: I’ve decided to manage a dota team because I myself also interested to play Dota, although I can say that I’m not that good in playing it. So to overcome my frustrations (hehe) I’ve realized.
Rhom: It all started as a pasttime during college and seemed to be a great hobby since I enjoyed it so much, now my dreams to have the ideal gaming industry in PH is slowly becoming true seeing many teams coming out and joining tournaments and playing with Excellent standards makes me feel very happy. Mineski always likes to “LEAD by Example” being a respectable team in the Dota Community, we have been able to slowly establish the proper attitudes that we have experienced during our entire Gaming Career.
- No Trashtalk.
- Respecting Everybody we encounter.
- Practicing Responsible Gaming and Learning Real Life Attitudes from TEAMWORK and Dedication.
- Participating in international Standard Events and Learning at the same time.
And Seeing other teams do the same makes us one step closer to the Gaming Dream that everybody has. (Step by step lang yan pare.)
What are the problems that you encountered in managing a team?
Edz: Number 1 problem yung “sumpong” ng mga babies ko. Normally emotional, immature, and sometimes not serious on game.
Herick: Some problems that I encountered in managing a team or our team as a whole, most of the time we were not able to handle stress well. After a failed game ,my players ended up blaming each other which I know is not
good, it only leads them to reach their level of incompetence, frustration, anger and in the end poor performance.
Rhom: Upon Managing a team finance is always the first concern on supporting the players to eat, stay and practice. Even tho the events don’t give that much to cover all these expenses. There is still a great motivation when I see all the players in the team happy and well off and being able to practice what we consider their profession and ability.
As one of the few managers in Competitive DotA, what can you say in PH Gaming’s current state?
Edz: Need more gimiks when there is tournaments, meaning more exciting views, at saka sana di na nauuso ang “Ban Players”. I hope some other time mawawala na ang “Ban Player” kasi marami n talagang magaling mag DotA.
Herick: I can say that PH Gaming is now more competitive globally. Because of the different tournament and events that are being organized.. Our players become more experienced. We just need the continued support of some privates sectors who can sponsor us in competing Internationally.
Rhom: What the players need now is support and more support from companies or people who have interests in gaming. As for the recent rise of other managers such as Prime’s Herick and Happyfeet’s Eds makes another stepping stone for PH Gaming. As they have emerged and supported a team and understood what they are in. People who support gamers is a really great blessing for Very Good Gamers making it feel close to being a PRO-Gamer. I hope someday there will be more people that will be involved and understand why such thing exists or Should Exist “PH PrO-Gaming” As of today it is very far fetched and we really need everybody’s help by joining the revolution and preparing the Environment for Investors/Sponsors to come in and someday become the Marketing Highway for Products and in return Provide Future for Gamers in the Philippines. Philippines has alot of talents but sad to say these people are not given the chance and opportunities to show their skills and get what they deserve in the first place.
What advice can you give to those people aspiring to manage a DotA team in the future?
Edz: MONEY, this is the number one factor to be consider, second is PATIENCE. You must know how to combine both money and patience then teach them how to respect their players for them to be motivated.
Herick: For those people aspiring to manage a Dota team in the future, my advice is that when there are problems or conflicts, ask your players involved, their opinion on how the conflict should be resolved must be
appreciated. Praise them in public, discipline them in private.
Rhom: Its all about passion. If your not a gamer you will never understand. For the Managers who only want to earn from their managed team you must learn the 2nd half of being a good manager whereby you also care for their future(give and take relationship). Find a way to make the players happy and do something responsible and practice responsible gaming. I hope more and more managers will rise and join the Revolution in Preparing the Philippine Gaming Industry to rise. A Person can only do so much, but a thousand Managers can do so much more… Pumping up gamers to be united will be the key to attracting attention from the support we need to be closer to the Environment that we aspire. (Gaming –> Provides Future; not a taboo that is regarded as a vice to the minds of the adults)
Message to the fans of your team.
Edz: CHILL LANG KAU AND RELAX…. The team is still looking forward to join the “DOTA International Gaming” that’s all. Manalo sana kami sa Prime ngaun saka mag champ sana ulit sa MSDT04. Hahahhahahahahaah!
