An Expensive Form of Protest

League of Legends went to China this year for the 2017 World Championship. Chinese were elated with the venue decision, and were hopeful that a team from their region would finally claim the Summoner’s Cup.
The region had strong contenders in EDward Gaming, Royal Never Give Up, and returning Chinese LoL royalty, Team WE.
However, as the tournament favorites dropped one after another, one Chinese fan took to releasing his pent up frustration in an expensive form of protest.
Rage Boycott
RNG and WE both managed to make it to the semifinals stage before being ultimately eliminated by two strong contenders from the Korean region. SK Telecom T1 and Samsung Galaxy played gatekeeper to the entire Chinese region as they book their spots in the grand finals.
One disgruntled Chinese fan purchased tickets mostly from VIP section which cost him around 125,000 USD. He then proceeded to rip the tickets and post the paper remains on Chinese social media sites.
This act of passionate rage was brought about the sheer crushing loss of watching your home teams being dismantled by foreign squads. This act expressed the feelings of the entire LPL region following the elimination of all their representatives.
League of Legends developer and Worlds 2017 organizer, Riot Games, have yet to make a statement regarding the issue.
The Worlds 2017 grand finals is set to take place this Saturday on November 4, 2017 at 3:30 PM. SKT and SSG will face off in the history Bird’s Nest Arena live from Beijing, China.
