Meet the individuals who will be leading Sibol’s player selection
One week after officially announcing Sibol together with the list of outstanding Filipino esports athletes who were directly invited to partake in the team’s training pool, the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Esports Union (PSEU) revealed earlier today the managers and coaches of the Philippines’ national esports team for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Composed of well-recognized local esports figures, Sibol’s pool of managers and coaches will be in charge of the selection process and the handling of the teams. The selection will be based on each player’s mastery of their respective esports title and their compatibility with the rest of the team, among others.
Sibol will be competing in all six titles featured in the esports event of this year’s SEA Games, which include Dota 2, Starcraft II, Hearthstone for PC, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang for mobile, and Tekken 7 for console.
Aside from the directly invited esports athletes, the Sibol training pool will also be composed of other candidates from the qualifiers. The first batch will be composed of two Dota 2 teams, two Hearthstone players, and three Starcraft II players. The second batch, on the other hand, will be composed of two Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams, one Arena of Valor team, and six Tekken 7 players.
The qualifiers for the PC titles will unfold on August 10-11, 2019. Interested teams can register until August 7. Meanwhile, the qualifiers for the mobile and console titles will be held on August 17-18, 2019. Registrations are open until August 11. Any Filipino citizen over the age of 13 is eligible to join the Sibol training pool qualifiers.

Up to 74 players will be recruited for the training pool, but will be trimmed down to 27 members after the selection process. Each team-based title, such as Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Arena of Valor, will be composed of seven representatives, while each individual gaming title, like Starcraft II, Hearthstone, and Tekken 7, will have two representatives.
The 30th SEA Games marks the first iteration of the sporting meet which includes esports as a medaled event.
Select matches of the Sibol training pool qualifiers will be broadcasted live on Sibol Esports’ official Facebook page. Updates on the team and more information are also available on their official website.
