The Shanghai Major Open Qualifiers 2 for the SEA region concluded with a strong finish by the finalist from the 1st Open Qualifier two days ago, Extremist Dota2. With the end of the 2nd Open Qualifiers, Extremist Dota2 is the 4th Filipino team to qualify for Shanghai to join their brethren teams TNC, Execration, and Mineski.Dota in the SEA Regional Qualifiers.
The story of the 2nd Open Qualifiers was one of redemption and despair with some teams coming back from the bottom and others fighting their way through the gruesome “go big or go home” best of one matches.
Formerly known as Team Espada, the Extremist Dota2 squad from Laguna, Philippines made their big debut last November 2015 during the TNC cup. The aforementioned team came up short after a nail-biting Bo3 series against Mineski.X in the 1st Open Qualifier Final last Monday. However, the TNC cup champions showed their resilience as they once more grinded it out through the crucial Bo1 rounds to advance to the finals on their road to redemption.
The Australian based team Its Just a Frank Bro, inspired by youtube sensation Filthy Frank, did consistently well throughout the Bo1 rounds as well. The team consists of two Filipino players “Bokerino” and “Abed” as well as three Australian players “XA”, *”Minerva” and former Absolute Legends player Darcy “Godot”.
Team Zero Latitude from Indonesia made it all the way to the semi-finals as well but were defeated at the hands of JustFrankBro in what was probably the most crucial match for both teams.
Finally, Young&Wild made their way to confront the former finalist team Extremist wherein the latter dominated to claim their victory and proceed to the finals.\
It was clear from what unfolded that Team Extremist had an insatiable desire to finally take a spot in the Main Qualifier that they were so close to taking two days before. Now, Extremist.Dota2 join the fray where the real battle for them begins.
