On the road to the Vainglory 2017 World Championship
The Autumn Regional Finals for both the NA and EU regions of the Vainglory League concluded today with G2 Esports and Team SoloMid rising to the top. The champions from both NA and EU advance to the 2017 League of Legends World Championship. EU’s G2 and NA’s TSM are joined by the final tournament wildcard, Tribe Gaming, also from NA.
EU: G2’s Redemption
EU’s G2 Esports managed to take down the dominant SK Gaming in the Autumn Finals of Vainglory8 EU. SK was initially up for the lone EU spot at the world championship until their untimely dip in performance at the start of the 2nd split of the season.
This gave G2 the chance to rise to the occasion and prove that they deserve the chance to represent their entire region in the 2017 Vainglory World Championship. G2 took down SK gaming in the Autumn Semifinals in a convincing 2-0 victory to edge close to the top of the league points ladder.
G2 would ultimately go on to lose the finals matchup against mousesports in a 1-2 defeat, but that single game win in the final series was what G2 needed to bump their score above SK Gaming in the final tally. G2 will be the lone EU representative at the World Championship in Singapore next month.
NA: The Cloud9 Gatekeeper
The NA teams would have to go through a rough season in order to qualify for the World Champion primarily because of the presence of Cloud9. C9 is not only one of the strongest teams in the region, the team also qualified for the World Championship thanks to their Unified Championship streak. Cloud9 was in prime position to upset the order in the ladders as the rest of the NA teams fought to claim the top spot.
Team SoloMid answered the call for the top spot. TSM fought their way to the grand finals of the NA Autumn split only to fall at the hands of C9. They may have been defeated handily in their first game of the series, but TSM managed to inch ahead of Rogue on their way to the top spot in the ladder. TSM finished at 33 League Points, 2 points ahead of Rogue, securing their spot in the 2017 World Championship.
The final wildcard team from the NA region was also chosen today following C9’s victory in the grand finals. Tribe Gaming took the third and final NA spot at the 2017 Vainglory World Championship as the final wildcard team. C9, TSM, and Tribe will be fighting for their home region next month at Singapore.
A total of eleven teams have been confirmed to compete at the World Championship next month, including the three NA teams, and EU’s G2 Esports. The remaining team will be decided in the Chinese region’s regional final next week.
We are only a little over a month away from the biggest Vainglory tournament of the year. Only one team remains to be selected for the 12th and final slot at the World Championship. Who will win it all this year?
