The entertaining exploits of the western teams in the ongoing 2018 League of Legends World Championship continued through to the second elimination day of the group stage. G2 Esports found themselves in a precarious position as they tied up with Taiwan’s Flash Wolves for the 2nd seed position of their group. The fans and analysts were split between the two teams as they entered the all-important tie breaker match with the hopes of winning the Sumoner’s Cup hanging in the balance.

G2 managed to finagle their way into locking a prime pick for their bot lane carry, Hjarnan. The third seeded EU squad have been riding an impressive undefeated streak with a Heimerdinger bot lane carry pick, and they would risk it all on the yordle mage in their game that had the biggest stakes.

Flash Wolves responded to the Heimerdinger pick by fielding in a Mordekaiser in their own bot lane to attempt a counter pick. However, unbeknownst to the Taiwanese representatives, G2 allegedly had a lot of practice against the Mordekaiser pick in the EU region. This fortuitous pick for Hjarnan was paired with an aggressive middle lane Irelia for their midlaner Perkz. Perkz applied pressure on both the top and the middle lane for the entire game, attracting most of the attention of FW. This gave Hjarnan ample opportunity to build his yordle to his heart’s content.

G2 had FW on the ropes at 22 minutes in the game with a massive 6-2 kill score and 4,000+ gold advantage. Flash Wolves were rendered helpless by the daunting siege from G2 Esports. The EU squad hardly needed a dedicated auto attack champion to lead their ranks, they shut down the Flash Wolves to secure their place in the Worlds 2018 Quarterfinals.

“If Heimerdinger wouldn’t have worked for us, then nothing would’ve worked for us,” Petter Hjarnan” Freyschuss, G2 Esports AD Carry, said. The European squads continue to be the ultimate paragon of sticking to your guns and risking it all on picks and strategies that you know you can execute. Hjarnan’s Heimerdinger winning streak continues along with G2 Esports’ hopes of making to the end of the this prestigious tournament.
