The Chinese dream stays alive!

Invictus Gaming, China’s second seeded team at Worlds 2018, continues to defy all expectations levied upon them as they continue their lone defense of the entire Chinese league. The plucky CN squad pulled off a big upset last week in the Quarterfinals stage of the 2018 League of Legends World Championship, as they took out the tournament favorites, KT Rolster. Invictus now has their sights on the rampaging 3rd EU seed, G2 Esports, who also eliminated one of the top teams in the tournament.
It’s the first best-of-five Semifinals series to determine which team will punch in their tickets for the Grand Finals at Incheon, South Korea first.
Unleash the Hammer
The Worlds 2018 analyst desk were all hoping for G2 to take the win and advance to the Grand Finals. This is especially due to the fact that G2’s win over Royal Never Give Up in the Quarterfinals was nothing short of a miracle. Invictus however had one plan heading into today’s Semifinals match, unleash the Jayce pick for TheShy in the top lane, and let their Top Laner take over the game. It was a theoretically simple strategy, but it worked out in more ways that anyone could have expected.
TheShy set the stage for the Invictus take over on the Semifinals stage. He was able to lock in the Jayce pick for Invictus in the second game of the series where he used it to render G2’s Top Laner, Wunder, into a position where he couldn’t contribute to his team. The Jayce was split between Invictus Mid Laner Rookie, and their top laner TheShy. Their individual play shut down two of the most potent threats on the G2 side, Perkz in the mid lane and Wunder in the top lane.
G2 Esports was rendered to a mere shadow of their full potential as they were beaten down soundly by the 2nd Chinese seed. The Semifinals series ended with a swift 3-0 score but not before G2 put up an amazing fight in the third game but couldn’t quite mount the counterattack that they needed in order to keep the series and their world championship dreams alive. Invictus Gaming will be moving onto the Grand Finals where they will lie in wait for the winner between the Cloud9 vs Fnatic Semifinals matchup which is set to take place tomorrow.
