North American fans of League of Legends made sure to be there when Cloud9 becomes their region’s last hope for the fourth time in history.

The North American organization’s amazing run at the group stage of the 2018 League of Legends World Championship on October 14 reportedly recorded the second highest daily viewership with 1.81 million hours watched. The first being League of Legends Championship Series Spring Finals for Europe and North America at 1.88 million.

According to a report published by The Esports Observer, Riot Games’ official Twitch channel reached a peak of 338.2K concurrent viewers as Cloud9 eliminated the defending champions Gen.G and Europe’s bet Team Vitality.

With Twitch being banned in China and Afreeca.tv being the go-to livestreaming esports platform in South Korea, The Esports Observer deduced that Cloud9’s run caused North American fans to flock the Amazon-owned streaming channel and witness their candidate’s success.

The elimination of Team Liquid and the Cleveland Cavaliers-partnered 100 Thieves left Cloud9 with the responsibility of making history as the first North American team to claim the Summoner’s Cup. The closest the region has ever come to was back in 2011 when Team Solo Mid secured a third-place finish.

Cloud9 will continue their Worlds 2018 journey tomorrow at 12:00 SGT in a quarterfinals bout against the home crowd-empowered Afreeca Freecs of South Korea.
