Swept Out of Worlds

Longzhu Gaming faced off against Samsung Galaxy earlier today in the first quarterfinals matchup of the Worlds 2017 playoffs. LZ went into the playoffs stage with an undefeated groups record. SSG on the other hand, secured the second seed in their group behind the hometown favorites Royal Never Give Up.
Today’s analyst desk was unanimous in their predictions on the series, with clear 3-1 LZ victory votes across the analysts. Long time bot lane duo PraY and GorillA looked to be well on their way to the world championship, up until their crushing defeat.
The Crux
Longzhu’s first run in the playoffs came to an abrupt end after a 0-3 loss. LZ looked to be in the weakest form we’ve ever seen from the super team that beat SK Telecom T1 in the 2017 LCK Summer Final.
Samsung Galaxy, on the other hand, was having a field day during the quarterfinals. The defending first runners up at Worlds put on a League of Legends clinic as they decimated the tournament favorites.
LZ managed to secure a few flashy solo kills during the laning phases across the three games. However, they were unable to secure any team fight apart from one exchange in the final 3rd game. There was simply no damage coming out from Longzhu each time the two teams clashed.
The Longzhu champs were almost completely ineffectual during their games as Samsung repeatedly capitalized on LZ’s weaknesses. The greatest weakness of LZ is their lack of international experience, with two of their members being rookies in the professional scene.
PraY and GorillA’s 3rd Worlds Run
This defeat marked the third failed attempt by bot lane duo PraY and Gorilla in Worlds. The duo once touted as the best bottom lane duo in the world were simply outclassed. SSG’s Ruler and CoreJJ seemed to always be one step ahead of the LZ duo.
Ruler shared one key piece of advice that their coach told him in the middle of the series to help him focus on the match. “You are a better AD Carry than PraY,” SSG Coach Edgar told Ruler.
PraY and GorillA’s first attempts at a world championship were thwarted by SKT on both occasions. The two players proved to be inseparable after the dissolution of the beloved ROX Tigers lineup earlier this year.
Analyst may consider them to be the best bot lane duo in the world but they will have to wait until next year’s Worlds to prove that they deserve that title.
