Who will be the next ROG Masters?

The ASUS Republic of Gamers has announced a new chapter for their world-class esports tournament which will kickoff from June through November this year. Starting with the Philippine Qualifiers, The ROG Masters 2017 will gather the best Filipino Dota 2 teams nationwide to fight for the Regional Qualifier slot and the PHP 200,000 prize pool.

Last year, the ROG Masters solidified the dominance of Mineski-Dota and Execration on the Southeast Asian region. The Grand Finals of ROG Masters in Malaysia, which was organized by Mineski Events Team, saw both Philippine-based team cruising past some of the world’s mightiest contenders.

While Mineski-Dota came in short-handed to reach the Grand Finals, Execration proudly represented the Philippines against the European titans Team Secret. As we all know, the crowd-favorites then proceeded to steamroll over the underdogs to claim the very first ROG Masters title, but the might of the Filipinos will never be forgotten.

A year have passed and the local competitive scene of Dota 2 has changed massively. We have witnessed the rise of new powerhouses like TNC Pro Team and Clutch Gamers, who have been claiming almost all SEA qualifiers slot only for themselves.

The reincarnated squad of Philippines’ most iconic team, Happy Feet, should also never be counted off. But ultimately, what should the hardcore fans, and casuals alike, be wary of is the ROG Masters Grand Finalist’s return to the main stage. Especially with the addition of Philippines’ most explosive player, Ryan Jay “Bimbo” Qui, to Execration‘s roster, things are about to look scary for their opponents.

The Online Qualifier will start this weekend to be followed by The Dota 2 Regional Qualifiers will start on July 22-23 with a Single Elimination format. Teams who will make it to the top will advance on the Philippine Semi Finals on August 2017. And finally, to fulfill another step closer to becoming the ROG Master, the best teams will battle at the Philippine Finals, also on August, for the Regional Qualifier slot.
