Six Teams Officially Withdraw From Galaxy Battles

Newbee, Kinguin are the latest to back out

A total of six participants from the Galaxy Battles II: Emerging Worlds, a premier Dota 2 tournament set to take place in the Philippines this January, have formally announced their withdrawal from the competition since Valve repealed its Major status on early Friday morning.

After Virtus.pro, Team Liquid, Team Secret, and OpTic Gaming officially stated that they will be backing out of the Philippine-hosted Dota 2 tournament, Chinese powerhouse Newbee and up-and-coming Polish squad Kinguin also decided to do the same.

Newbee, the first Asian team to back out of the tournament, publicized their decision through social media posts done earlier today.

Meanwhile, Kinguin, which will be competing in the tournament’s Wild Card, made their announcement through a tweet made by the organization’s Dota 2 manager Michał “mr0” Jackowski.

In a report published by Unikrn, Fallout Gaming, the organizers of the Galaxy Battles tournament series, stated that they are in constant communication with the teams and they understand their stance. They also added that they will be keep updating as they replace the missing teams.

The last three teams to back out, OpTic Gaming, Newbee, and Team Kinguin, released their decision after Fallout Gaming said, on Saturday night, that the tournament will still go on as planned despite the cut in its prize pool and the removal of the coveted Dota Pro Circuit points.
