Team Secret successfully defended their DreamLeague title without breaking a sweat after sweeping Fnatic Dota, 3-0, in the grand final of the DreamLeague Season 9, the 11th Minor tournament of the Dota Pro Circuit.
Despite being responsible for the elimination of Newbee and a Miracle-less Team Liquid in an impressive lower bracket run, the Southeast Asian representative was still unable to make the European powerhouse flinch.
The closest Fnatic ever got into defeating Team Secret was during the second game of the best-of-five series when they notched a 5,121 gold lead after picking off YapzOr‘s Io and Puppey‘s Sand King in the early game. Unfortunately, it all went down the drain as Ace‘s Bristleback snowballed over Fnatic’s Silver Edge-less heroes.
Although the grand final was undeniably a Team Secret show, the rest of the tournament still served as a testament to Fnatic’s capabilities against the current Dota Pro Circuit leaders. They even got back to Team Liquid for their Arc Warden shenanigans at the ESL One Katowice 2018 in the form of EternaLEnVy’s Shadow Shaman carry in the upper bracket, as well as his baleful 17/1/15 Lycan in the loser’s final.
Fnatic’s second-place finish earned them the 10th spot of the Dota Pro Circuit rankings, 16 points shy of dethroning Mineski-Dota in the ninth spot. Team Secret, on the other hand, is 24 points away from clinching the second spot from Team Liquid.
