VGJ.Thunder jumps to 6th place of DPC Ranking
Virtus.pro became the first Dota 2 squad to claim a spot at The International 2018 after securing a grand final bout against VGJ.Thunder in The Bucharest Major, the fourth Major tournament of the Dota Pro Circuit.
At least 5847 DPC points were required for a team to be directly invited at this year’s grand Dota 2 championship. With 4947 DPC points on hand before entering the best-of-five, the Russia-based Dota 2 team did not even need to win against their Chinese contenders to fill in the 900 DPC points they lack.
Despite this fact, RAMZES666, No[o]ne, 9pasha, RodjER, and Solo still proceeded to sweep the Fade-led squad to nail 2250 DPC points, $500,000 prize money, and their second straight Major tournament title.

Out of four concluded Major tournaments this season, Virtus.pro was able to win three of it: ESL One Hamburg 2017, ESL One Katowice 2018, and The Bucharest Major. They were also able to snag some points at multiple minor tournaments like the AMD SAPPHIRE Dota PIT League, MDL Macau, and The Summit 8.
Virtus.pro were able to farm up to 6750 DPC points solely for their victories at Major tournaments. Theoretically, even if their DPC points from Minor tournaments were disregarded, Virtus.pro would still have enough points for a direct invitation to The International 2018 while leading Team Liquid and Team Secret in the rankings.
Meanwhile, VGJ.Thunder’s first grand final appearance of the season bolstered their DPC ranking. From the 17th place, the 1350 points they received at The Bucharest Major catapulted them to the sixth place of the DPC Rankings. In one silver finish at a Major tournament, VGJ.Thunder was able to overtake Natus Vincere and Mineski-Dota in the rankings while eliminating Evil Geniuses from the top eight.
In the GESC: Indonesia Dota 2 Minor, the next tournament of the season, none of the leading teams will be able to join Virtus.pro yet at The International 2018. However, Evil Geniuses and Fnatic may have a chance to snatch the eighth spot away from Mineski-Dota.
