Philippine representatives vie against the region’s best

The World Electronic Sports Games 2017 Asia Pacific Finals finally kicks off tomorrow at the Jiaozhou Fangyuan Stadium in Jiaozhou, China to determine who among the 327 players from 38 countries will advance to the WESG world championship.

Starting on January 11, Asia Pacific’s best Hearthstone, Starcraft II, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), and Dota 2 players will gather in a four-day tournament to fight for one of the 44 slots in the WESG 2017 Grand Finals.

Commencing with the group stages, participants from each major esports title will be divided into four groups.The top three teams or players from each faction will qualify for the playoffs after two days of grueling matches and fight to be the region’s representative for the main event.

The Philippines, WESG’s defending champions for Dota 2 and Hearthstone, has sent 16 top-notch Filipino esports athletes for this edition’s APAC Finals. Despite added pressure due to TNC Pro Team‘s success last year, HappyFeet and Entity Gaming are still poised to give honor to the country.

The country’s CSGO delegate also looks promising as Mineski-CSGO, the Philippines’ best contender, will be fighting for its flag.

Meanwhile, the grand stages of WESG 2017 APAC Finals will also host the return of the Filipino Bonjwa, Caviar Napoleon “EnDerr” Marquises-Acampado, to the professional Starcraft II scene.

The WESG 2017 global competition has a total prize money of up to $5.5 million with a $279,800-prize pool for the APAC Finals.
