China was overall champion with 5 medals.
The World Electronic Sports Games APAC 2017 concluded up earlier today with China coming out on top as overall champions with five accumulated medals across the four different games. The homecrowd gave them enough of a boost. Here’s how some of the competing countries did in this year’s WESG APAC Finals.
Indonesia
Indonesia’s Dota 2 team EVOS was one of the teams that was in the hat to win it all in the tournament. With a squad packed with experience led by iLogic, EVOS barely made it to the Top 8 and fell short of expectations.
Fortunately for the Indonesians, Hearthstone rep nexok40 came to save the day bagging the country a silver medal bowing out against Palestinian star Mazen*.
Philippines
The Philippines failed to win a single medal in WESG APAC 2017. Dota was supposedly its strongest contingent in the tournament but they could unfortunately not secure a podium finish.
But the performances of HappyFeet, Entity Gaming, and Starcraft 2 player Enderr was enough to book them a slot at the WESG Worlds 2017 later this year.
South Korea
In true South Korean fashion, the East Asian nation continued to dominate the StarCraft 2 scene with Classic and Dark easily making it into the finals. Classic eventually won against his compatriot 3-1 in the Grand Finals.
In CS:GO, South Korean squad MVP PK made it to the Grand Finals before losing to Aussie team Order. It was a surprise but deserving extra Silver Medal for the South Koreans
China
Despite not parading its elite Dota 2 players from teams such as Newbee and LGD the two Chinese teams Keen Gaming and Rock-Y managed to make it to the finals in Dota 2 and secured them a Gold and a Silver Medal regardless of the results.
The hosting country’s other Gold came from their Women’s CS:GO team ETAB which helped bring the Chinese tally to five.
The Grand Finals of WESG 2017 will feature teams and players from all over the world and is expected take place in the first quarter of 2018.
