The 2018 League of Legends World Championship Quarterfinals kicked off today with an exciting first matchup between Korea’s number one hope, KT Rolster, and China’s second seed, Invictus Gaming. KT entered the tournament as the tournament favorites alongside China’s Royal Never Give Up leading many to expect both teams to face it off in an exciting Semifinals match.
However, iG has plans of their own as they come out to the Quarterfinals swinging, harboring no fear against one of the strongest teams in the tournament.
Going out Swinging
Invictus kicked off the series with a strong one-two combination as they quickly force the series into match point with their masterful plays with TheShy manning the top lane and holding his own against KT’s Smeb. An amazing third game defense from KT Rolster which ended in a base race nail-biter salvaged the series for Korea’s New Hope, and dashed iG’s prospects of finishing the series with a swift sweep.
KT Rolster would eventually tie up the series 2-2, pushing the first Quarterfinals match into a final game but it would be ultimately Invictus’ time to shine as they methodically secure each objective and team fight and kill in the final game. The first Playoffs match at Worlds 2018 ended with Invictus Gaming waltzing to the Semifinals seed with a 3-2 victory.
The Worlds 2018 journey ends for KT Rolster but not before they have a chance of treating us to one of the most suspenseful matches in the tournament so far. They exit the tournament leaving only the Afreeca Freecs to defend the South Korean soil. The Quarterfinals continue tomorrow with EDward Gaming facing off against Fnatic, and Cloud9 taking on the Afreeca Freecs.
