Thunder Predator Awaken has been officially disqualified from The International 2018 South America qualifiers due to an ‘unfair advantage’.

In a tweet posted by Cristian Duca, a FACEIT official, ‘Thunder Gaming’ was forced to forfeit their dreams to fly to Vancouver, Canada this year for the grand Dota 2 world championship for using an ‘unfair advantage’.

The decision was finalized after a reddit user user pointed out that Thunder Predator Awaken’s midlaner, Juan “Atun” Ochoa, was using macros during their winner’s qualifier match against *SG E-sports.

macro is a rule or pattern that specifies how a certain input sequence should be mapped to a replacement output sequence according to a defined procedure.

Redditor trking92 used Thunder Predator Awaken’s game three against SG E-Sports as a proof of the macros usage. During the 29-minute mark of the game, Atun, who was playing Meepo, casted Poof on all of his Meepo clones without any interval in the casting time—an action which is humanly impossible without the use of macros.

In the same thread, another redditor also recognized that Atun was using macros during the second game of the series as Huskar. The game’s combat log showed how Atun can turn his Armlet of Mordiggian from on to off without a time interval.

Atun admitted that he was using macros in a Facebook video. In the post, he shared how he was using macros since before the Frankfurt Major, a Valve-sanctioned Dota 2 tournament, with Team Unknown. He recounted how no referee told him that the usage of macros was prohibited, making him unhappy about their disqualification in The International 2018 regional qualifiers.

The disqualification of Thunder Predator Awaken has moved paiN Gaming and SG E-sports to the regional qualifier’s grand finals after both teams emerged from the winner’s and loser’s finals, respectively.
