Singapore To Host The 2017 Vainglory World Championship

12 Teams from around the world will compete for a piece of the $140,000 prize pool

The 2017 Vainglory World Championship will take place at the Kallang Theatre in Singapore, from December 14-17 at the end of this year.

According to game developer Super Evil Megacorp’s CEO Kristian Segerstrale, the decision to bring the World Championship to Singapore is a “return to where it all began”.

Vainglory is a 3v3 Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) developed specifically for mobile and handheld devices. The game features all the complexity of a typical MOBA (hero choices, level ups, laning strategy, etc.) but with controls streamlined for touchscreens. Singaporean players were among the first to get access to the game’s beta phase, and the game has since become very popular in Southeast Asia.

The $140,000 USD prize pool tournament will feature 12 of the best Vainglory teams from around the world. These include, currently, Cloud9 (NA), Rox Armada (South Korea), ACE Gaming (South Korea), Elite8 (Indonesia), Hunters (China), and Impunity (Singapore).

In addition, the Vainglory8 Autumn champions from each of four regions (NA/EU, EA/SEA, CN, SA) and two wildcard teams will also advance to the World Championships.

The event will also host the first-ever showcase of the upcoming 5v5 mode for the game, which will feature the iconic three-lane MOBA map found in other MOBAs such as Dota 2 and League of Legends.

Mr. Segerstrale said, “We intend to prove to MOBA players around the world that Vainglory is the most-fun, best-performing 5v5 experience out there, and we look forward to working closely with our community to make it the best it can be.

Tickets for the event in the Kallang Theatre are free (details are in this LINK). The World Championships will also be streamed live via FacebookTwitch, and YouTube.
