The Dream Has Finally Come True
The time has finally come for one of the oldest Dota teams in the Philippines to fulfill their dream of playing at the world’s biggest Dota 2 stage. After four days of going head to head against eight of the best Dota 2 teams in the world, Execration managed to deliver some of the best Dota of their lives and advance to the main event of The International 2017.
Execration’s road to this year’s TI is a long one that goes as far back as last year’s The International. Even though the Cavite-based boys were able to attend last year’s grand Dota 2 showdown, their failure to get past Escape Gaming in the group stages hindered them from playing at the KeyArena. They were given a chance at redemption after they broke history as the first Filipino team to receive a direct invitation to a Valve event, however their trip to Boston was also stymied by the age-old visa problem that plagues travelling esports athletes.
The organization then had one of the worst slumps in its storied career after star players DJ and Abed moved on to other teams and captain Kim0 struggled to complete a roster that could compare. Then, out of nowhere, a team comprised of Kim0, Nando, CartMan, RR, and the Philippines’ Raging Potato himself. Execration then fought tooth and nail all the way from the TI7 Open Qualifiers, and now they’re at TI again, but this time, they’re going to the main event.
Execration will finally get to play in the KeyArena.
So far, Kim0 and his squad of Filipino dreamers are in top form. In their series against Team OG earlier today, the world witnessed how Raging Potato can easily go neck to neck even against the best midlaners of the world. His return to the middle lane as Necrophos shut down ana’s Alchemist to nail Execration’s upset. Few PH players deserve a shot at the coveted Aegis of Champions more than the Raging Potato, and he’s proving it from the other side of the world.
Execration is set to fight against Europe’s Team Secret at the lower bracket of the main event. On the surface, the world might see an easy win for Puppey and his squad (who have beaten Execration before, at the ASUS ROG Masters), but for the eyes of Execration’s loyal fans, nothing is impossible.
